GENERAL PURPOSE
Reports to a predetermined, dangerous location and
helps children cross the roadway in the safest possible manner.

Works under the general supervision of a
Sergeant.

Reviews the area for dangerous circumstances that are
not normal.
Assists children and pedestrians in crossing the
street safely.
Turns pedestrian traffic lights on and off. Makes sure the lights are functioning as they
should be.
Be on location to function as the crossing guard one
hour in the morning, and one hour in the afternoon.
Regular and predictable attendance
Must report all
problems and potential problems to supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education
and Experience:
A. Graduation from high school or equivalent
GED.
B. Sufficient experience to demonstrate a
working knowledge of essential functions.
2. Knowledge,
Skills & Abilities:
Some knowledge of
pedestrian road safety.
Ability to
communicate effectively with pedestrians and the driving public. Ability to use good judgment in determining
when it is safe to cross the road. Able
to work well with children.
3. Special Qualifications
21 years of age or older is desirable.
4. Work Environment:
Tasks require a variety of physical
activities periodically involving muscular strain related to walking, standing,
stooping, sitting, pulling and reaching.
Essential functions require talking, hearing and seeing. Common eye,
hand, finger dexterity required to perform essential functions. Daily exposure to weather extremes and
seasonal conditions. Must be willing to
work in all weather conditions during school sessions.
FLSA
AND AT-WILL STATUS
This
position is an at-will position and is exempt from the protections of Utah Code
10-3-1105. As such, the School Crossing
Guard may be terminated with or without cause and shall not be entitled to due
process appeal authority as set forth in Utah Code 10-3-1106.
The
School Crossing Guard position is a non-exempt position under the Fair Labor
Standards Act.
